The silk brocade of this beautiful open robe is magnificent. The vibrant raspberry and soft cream harmonize to create a truly beautiful garment.
The gown is of the polonaise style, with the original back waist buttons and inside cords to gather up the skirt at the back.
The bodice closes at the front with fastenings, and the sleeves have pretty gathered elbow cuffs. The gown has all the original trimmings. The inside of the hem is lined with cream silk.
Unfortunately, I do not have the correct size of mannequin for this gown, so can only show the back as a proper display.. However, I hope, from the many photos, that a clear impression of this lovely gown can be seen. It would display beautifully with a cream silk petticoat.
The condition is excellent. There is the usual underarm marking, but otherwise I can find no other damage or any alterations. The silk is strong, as most brocaded 18th century silks are.
Measurements: Lenth from shoulder to hem: 54”. Across shoulders 16” and across waist 14”
