LOVELY DUSKY LILAC FLORAL WOVEN SILK SPITALFIELDS SHAWL ca. 1810

This pretty silk shawl has a ground color of pale dusky lilac with a darker reverse. Both ends are stylishly woven with the most beautiful soft colors of cerise, pink, gold, yellow white and olive green. It dates from about 1810. End fringe from weave.

The condition is generally good. However, there are some antique repairs and a couple of silk patches sewn on the reverse, which must date from when the shawl was in use. They are beautifully hand worked.

This was obviously a much treasured and much used accessory. There are also a few minute holes, which only show when held to the light. In spite of these faults, they do not detract greatly, as the volume of the shawl tends to minimise them. A superb shawl for the collector or to display.

Measurements: 100” x 26”
