ENGLISH & FRENCH ANTIQUE TEXTILES

A VERY PRETTY BLUE SILK SPITALFIELDS STOLE WITH WOVEN FLORAL ENDS. ENGLISH ca.1815

This pretty shawl was woven at the Spitalfields manufactory in London and dates to about 1815.

The colour is a mid-blue and the ends are woven with the most delightful floral design in many colours.

These shawls and stoles became very popular in the early 19th century as they complimented the fashion for white muslin gowns, although of course, gave little warmth.

This example is in excellent condition, and it is hard to believe it is 200 years old. I can find no damage at all.

Measurements: 92" x 18"
