AN EXCEPTIONALLY BEAUTIFUL SAPPHIRE BLUE SILK SPITALFIELDS SHAWL WITH FLORAL ENDS - ENGLISH ca. 1815

This lovely shawl was a rare find, and is exquisite in it's beauty. The London Spitalfields silk weavers produced many designs in 18th century dress and other silks, but none so famous as their jewel coloured early 19thc shawls.

This example has floral woven ends comprising of tied bunches of wheat and flowers together with roses and rose-buds. The sides have a thin woven border design.

The condition is excellent.
