ENGLISH & FRENCH ANTIQUE TEXTILES

TWO RARE EXAMPLES OF 18TH CENTURY FRENCH TOILE, BOTH DATED 1760-1790

Early French fabrics have a special charm, and these two pieces are no exception.

The indigo is Toile de Nimes and dates to around 1790. The reverse is in a paisley design, which may be slightly later. It has wool batting and is a section from a boutis or quilt.

The red piece with the charming bunch of roses is earlier and is dated to around 1760. I do not know where this was produced in France.
It has the most delightful slightly primitive floral design and the tied bunch, is typically 18th century in style. The reverse is of plain antique cream linen.

Both these pieces are in remarkable condition and the colours fresh. Ideal for cushions, research or collection.

The blue measures 16" x 20"

The red measures 19 1/2" x 14 1/2"

Price: USD $75.- each
