A RARE AND EXQUISITE EARLY 19TH CENTURY BOUTIS OR QUILT "LES BONNES HERBES". FRENCH 1810-1820s

This small quilt, is truly beautiful. It is a "fichu" or "kerchief" quilt, the design being the same as the little shoulder shawls so popular in the late 18th early 19th century.

The design of the printed cotton is on a rich forest green background, and this is known as "Les bonnes herbes" - a typical design of the Oberkampft factory or Mulhouse. This design was widely used, and is, today, very popular with collectors.

This little quilt is backed with nutmeg dotted cotton and simply quilted with a thin batting.

Used as a wall-hanging it would look decorative in either modern or traditional interiors. Or it could be used, as the condition is excellent.

Measurements: 44" x 46"
