A SUPERB AND COLOURFUL VICTORIAN ANTIQUE PATCHWORK QUILT - ENGLISH 1850 - 1880

This beautiful quilt is made up of floral, striped and plain dress fabrics dating from between 1850 and 1880 (the dates are approximate, and some fabrics could be earlier) The hexagonal shapes are sewn together with tiny hand stitching, and have paper templates inside. This quilt has never been used or washed, and one can still see a great deal of tacking stitches - some have been removed. It is backed with a wine red sateen cotton material, and it is possible that this was done at a later date. Possibly around 1900 - 1920, or it may have been backed on completion of the quilt, whenever that was.
In any event this is a lovely, and very large quilt in superb condition.

There is a hole in the back lining (ask for photo), where I assume someone has tried to see the make-up of the quilt. This could be patched, and it does not detract.
